Gregory Poussier

Over 20 years of sculpting, Grégory POUSSIER has refined his mastery of anatomy and physiognomy. This pursuit of realism is not an end in itself, but rather a prerequisite for storytelling.

The expression of grace, the tension within a movement, and the elegance of a posture can only be fully realized when the viewer is not distracted by inaccurate or imprecise details. Consequently, Grégory meticulously refines each pose until its expression is elevated to a sublime level. He will tirelessly rework a face until he uncovers a poignant personality, capable of conveying a diverse range of emotions.

Firmly rooted in a modern figurative tradition, the artist draws inspiration from contemporary sculptors such as Philippe Morel, Christophe Charbonnel, Nicolas Lavarenne, and Bruno Catalano, among others. While they inherit a style of sculpture often labeled as "academic," these artists revitalize the genre by deeply embedding their work within the context of the present day. Their approach serves as a bridge between 19th-century sculpture—a period for which Grégory holds a particular fondness—and our own era.

His work explores the essence of humanity, seeking to exalt the greatness inherent in mankind. Through grace and elegance, Grégory collaborates with his models to discover inspiring poses that evoke a sense of power, soaring movement, and grounded stability.

Grégory Poussier works with terracotta, marble, and bronze in his studio, "Le Créatoire," located in the Lauragais countryside between Toulouse and Carcassonne. There, he also teaches various techniques, including modeling, patination, molding, and painting.
