Hervé Lenouvel

Born in 1960 in Brittany, Hervé Lenouvel spent his childhood in the countryside, near the Brocéliande forest. Growing up in a rural environment, he developed an early interest in drawing, then painting, and established a very close, almost spiritual, relationship with nature, which has remained his primary source of inspiration ever since.

A self-taught artist, Lenouvel devoured books on various techniques and experimented with several types of paint, such as watercolor and gouache, before finally settling on oil paint, whose viscosity offered him a sensuality he could not find in any other medium. At the beginning of his career, he gravitated towards a more figurative style, then adopted a more instinctive approach,

developing a suggestive pictorial language, bordering on abstraction, even though he denies it:

“Although I am considered an abstract painter, in my soul I am very figurative, since my subjects are directly linked to figuration, and I think that this abstraction is in the eyes of others.”

Nature remains his sole source of inspiration to this day. For him, it is an immense space of freedom. His interpretations result from his observations and memories of the landscapes that

surround him. With a rich and generous palette, Lenouvel offers us, as he

walks, an archipelago of playful visions, reflecting the intensity of his inner journey.

Today, Lenouvel still lives and works in Brittany. His paintings have been exhibited for many years in France, England, Canada, and the USA.
