Franck Brière
Born in 1965 in Honfleur, Franck Brière comes from a family of fishermen, spanning several generations, and parents who were teachers.
He grew up among port fishermen and Estuary artists who, at the time, painted on the quays of Honfleur. He thus rubbed shoulders with the painters Hamburg, Bouyssou, Leterreux, Loriot and especially Fernand Herbo, his tutor, who shared his interest in port and maritime subjects (docks, cranes and smoke). Through contact with these renowned artists he was able to train in traditional techniques. He has been drawing and painting since the age of 5 and won first prize in drawing at the age of 7.
While retaining the spirit of the great elders whose heritage he claims, using pastel, gouache, acrylic, oil, Brière reinvents the impressionist themes. In perpetual research, he creates new techniques, painting with coffee, tea, red wine, whiskey, mixing traditional pigments with turpentine, linseed oil, spirits, thus obtaining new colors and transparencies.
President of the Honfleur Academy of Artists, he is an artist who captures the changing atmosphere of the Estuary, a place which has attracted poets and painters throughout time.
